The event, as expected, showcased the skills and talents of cricketers who are not only world renowned players but also those, who are relatively unknown to the world. This is a great platform where great players mingle together and compete.
What I found most heartening was that last year's 2 bottom most placed teams, made it to the final this year and one of the teams went on to win the championship. Kudos to both Bangalore Royal Challengers and Deccan Chargers. And to my utmost disappointment, KKR, who finished 6th last year, slipped to 8th position and what a way to reach the bottom!!
The team was always in news for all the wrong reasons; captaincy issues, the "mystery" blogger, racial slurs... the list was endless. Really, was SRK trying to plot a bollywood pot boiler? I thought, KKR was the most mis-managed team in this season of IPL. I would say, some wrong decisions at crucial times, over fascination and over dependence on foreign support staff and foreign players, led to the undoing of the team. KKR simply didn't look like a unit, whenever they took the field. With SRK choosing to leave South Africa in middle of the tournament, it dented the moral of the team further.
This brings to mind another valid point; real life can never be like reel life or vice versa. I will explain here. We loved the movie "Chak de India" and appreciated the character of Kabir Khan, en ex hockey player, who was lost in oblivion but made a come back as national coach of the women's hockey team and that team went on to capture the world cup. The character was aptly portrayed by King Khan. In the movie, he was instrumental in bringing together a bunch of unruly girls to form the National team. The team was world beater.
We were expecting the same level of motivation, inspiration and hint of magic from SRK for his team but alas, it was a far cry from what Kabir Khan did .The team which boasted of names of the likes of Ganguly, Mcullum, Gayle etc, was surely meant for much more better standing...
